What do I need to become a professional Graphic Designer?

I teach fashion but the graphics course is right next to us & I believe the qualifications are more or less the same for each industry. If you have 5 GCSE’s or more you can apply to do a National Diploma in Graphic Design – this will be taught at most FE colleges in the UK. If you already have 3 or more A levels then you can apply to do an HND, a Foundation Degree or BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design at most universities & HE colleges. I know employers would rather job applicants had a degree & the best degree to go for is a Sandwich degree as this gives you the opportunity to work in industry in your 2nd or 3rd year & the degree lasts 4yrs instead of 3! I did this & it really helped me to get the job I want. Some people are successful without qualifications, but in this day and age it’s very rare to be accepted for a job without a degree or diploma! Take a look at the UCAS website for more info on uni’s which have graphics courses! http:/
