What do i need to be a zookeeper?
I’ll let other people answer your secondary questions since I’ve gotta be out the door in 10 minutes. You only need a high school diploma to be a zookeeper. Experience with animals is a plus (as in if you were raised on a farm, or had previous animal work) and you will be required to be able to lift 50lb’s (feed bags/trash cans/hay bales) and do hard dirty physical labor in all weather conditions. It’s an excellent starting job because of the lack of academic requirements and is a superb way to build experience for resumes since the zoo keeping job is so broad range (many skills applicable in many places). This is important since most animal related jobs require experience that is difficult to obtain in the first place. Due to heavy lifting I also worked with many high schoolers and college students who did the work during the sports off seasons to maintain good physical shape and endurance. It is definitely beneficial to your body.
