A vested fire fighter can terminate his/her service from the fire department before reaching the applicable age required to receive service retirement benefits. This person is still eligible for service retirement benefits and benefits are to begin on the date that he/she turns age 55. On termination of service, the pension board is to issue the member a certificate of service (reference Section 13 of the law book) and file a vested retirement application with our office (reference the Volunteer Department List of Forms).
