What do i do now one of my zebra finches has died, the female is left alone?
Zebra finches can live on their own for a period of time, so don’t worry that your female will die of loneliness. Your female zebra finch will notice that the male is gone and may be depressed at first. Zebra finches are hardy birds and your female will get over her grief soon. One of my zebra finches died of a contagious disease some years ago and I had to wait at least two months before I bought another finch. I had to keep a close eye on my one zebra finch to be sure he didn’t catch what the other one had. Fortunately, he remained healthy and I was able to get another finch. He remained active and happy during the time he was by himself. I’m assuming you want to get another zebra finch. Make sure to quarantine any new finch for at least one month before placing it in the same cage with the female. You want to be sure the new finch doesn’t have any contagious disease it can pass on to your female.
