If you are getting buffer under runs, these errors are hardly ever an actual problem with the CD-R drive. They occur because information is not getting to the CD-R fast enough. You should not have anything running in the background when you are writing to a CD. You should press Ctrl Alt Delete and end task on everything except Explorer, systray, and the writing software. If you are copying from one CD-ROM to another then you need to make sure that it is transferring data and audio fast enough. You can go into Easy CD Creator and click on Tools and then System tests. Run the tests on the CD-ROM and hard drive. They should be transferring at about 800 kb/sec to be able to write at 2x with no problems. The small file rate for the data transfer is the one to look at because most files are under 6 MB in size.
