Your drains in your shower or sinks could be drying out(due to the heating system) There’s a ‘p’ trap that supposed to have water in it at all times to keep sewer gas from coming back into the house on each drain. If it dries out, then sewer gas comes into your house. Yes, it smells like rotted vegetables…or at least something rotted. To test this theory, when you next notice the smell, go to each drain in your house and pour about a gallon of water down each one, one at a time. If the smell goes away after you’ve done this to one of the drains, you’ve found the source. The only remedy is to make sure that that particular drain gets water dumped in it on a regular basis.
