What do Electroneurodiagnostic Technicians do?
END technologists prepare patients for procedures, record electrical potentials, obtain medical histories, calculate results, and maintain equipment. They work with specially trained physicians who interpret the data and provide clinical impressions. Technologists operate recording instruments and supplemental equipment, choosing settings for optimal viewing of electrical activity. They observe patient behavior and compliance with instructions, determine appropriate activation procedures and recording strategies, instruct patients in performance of specific tasks, and stimulate various sensory receptors. Most importantly, electroneurodiagnostic technologists understand the basis of the procedures they perform… they understand neurophysiology and recognize normal and abnormal electrical activity. They act as eyes and ears for physicians who later review and interpret the data. Considerable individual initiative is expected of the electroneurodiagnostic professional.
