What do Citizens Advice Bureaux do, and how do you help reduce social exclusion?
We are a problem-solving charity. We do this in a number of ways. We deal with the problems of clients who walk through the door of our bureaux, and we also campaign for change based on the huge amount of evidence we receive from our bureaux of where things are going wrong. We deal with over five million problems a year using 20,000 trained volunteers, providing advice from over 3,400 locations, including traditional high street bureaux and outreach services in places such as doctors’ surgeries. Finally, we provide information through our award-winning website Adviceguide, which attracts over two and a half million users a year. The advice we provide is free, independent and confidential, and we already have a well-known brand; in fact, over 95% of the population have heard of us from MORI research commissioned by us, and more than half have used a bureau themselves, or have friends or family who have.
