I would forget about veggies and just feed them on sinking tablets and wafers that should make them grow. They will also eat some type of water plants so maybe the crushed stalks of water plants and made to sink. If you look at a plecos mouth you will see that it is round with a lot of short sharp teeth and they can scrape any food off any surface.
