What do bullies look like?
There is no single psychological profile of the bully, except that their need to hurt or indifference to the pain of another person stems usually from a self perception of being inadequate and usually represents maladapted survival strategies. Hence their motive or reward for bullying is nearly always to become more powerful, to aggrandise themselves and avoid blame, retribution or criticism for being (in their mind) so worthless, so unlovable and rejected. Sheer greed and an unquenchable avarice may also play a part in their motivation. Is there a psychological type for bullies? No. Anybody can be a bully if they so choose. But it comes at a cost. Who are the victims or targets? Bullying it turns out is not the exclusive province of the male. Female bullies are in abundance and as you would expect, their victims 84% of the time are other females (Survey by CAWB 2000 of 1300 respondents).
