What do archaeologists hope to learn by unearthing George Washingtons home?
They will learn how our first president lived as a child, and what life was like back in the 1740’s. This kind of knowledge will lead us to a better understanding of our our heritage and culture, and give us insight into one of the greatest Americans ever. I can’t get over how fascinating this is for me–I love archaeological excavations, and this one involving the Father of our Country has got to be the most exciting discovery in a long time! I would absolutely LOVE to go there to see this–and just might, as it’s only 50 miles from where my daughter lives. I tell her that where she lives, in Alexandria, might be where George camped out one night! You just never know! Of course everyone is curious about whether there was a tree and ax on the property. So far, no evidence to prove that. But many other things have been found that give us more insight into this man and his family in his early years that we didn’t know before.
