What do AI members do about human rights in their own country?
An integral part of AI’s work is the international nature of its concerns. In an effort to reflect the international nature of our work and to use our role as a worldwide organization more effectively, the movement has adopted limitations on work done by AI members in their own country. These limitations are placed primarily on individual cases. While Amnesty International has placed limitations on work done by members in their own country, within the United States there are a number of exceptions where AIUSA members do work in our own country. These include death penalty abolition, refugee and asylum concerns, ratification of international human rights treaties, and human rights education.
