What do accountants do?
Don’t do it! I am an Accountant and hate it. True it can be interesting if you get the top jobs and are involved in management decision making. But the work of ordinary accountants is boring. Your maths will not really help. CIMA may be more relevant here in that there is some maths as part of the syllabus but most of the other big accountancy bodies don’t have business maths as part of their curriculum. The exams are quite tough. Most of the years in accountancy have involved inputting journals into a computer system. Producing reports. You are basically a glorified bookkeeper! I am sure other accountants will not agree with me. True you can get lucky and get a good job and feel very much part of the business but most of the time your work as an accountant is not appreciated. You are regarded as an overhead cost! It is the people who bring in the business for the companies who are well regarded.
