There is no real discernible difference between softwood and hardwood pellets. Whether you purchase a 5-pound bag of softwood pellets or a 5-pound bag of hardwood pellets you have 5 pounds of pellets for your pellet stove. Since the pellets are made of mostly compressed sawdust the real difference between the two is a matter of personal preference.
