What distinction does Freud make between the Manifest dream-content and the latent-dream content?
The manifest dream is the overt dream, what actually took place, and the latent content is the hidden meaning of the dream- the wish and the symbolism as all dreams are disguised wish fulfillment according to Freud. Therefore, a person dreams she has fallen into a pit of snakes (I know, not subtle… but it makes the point). The manifest dream is a dream about snakes.The latent meaning could be a desire for a group sexual encounter.
