What distance tables does the Voyage Simulator use ?
The Voyage Simulator does not use distance tables which is a hint as to the true nature of the simulation technology involved and the power and flexibility of the system. Each simulation begins with the generation of a digital spheroid consisting of land and navigable water from satellite radar telemetry. The spheroid is overlaid with layers of real time wave, wind and current data. Finally, user defined masks such as Routing Options, Limiting Latitudes and Restricted Areas are loaded to fully define the state of this virtual world. Multiple instances of a digital ship operating in accordance with the performance curves (provided by the user or by algorithm) steam through this world. Every simulation is unique with no pre-ordained navigational tracks.
