What disorders are linked to panic disorder?
Often it is difficult to diagnose panic disorder because more than one illness can occur simultaneously and complicate the disorder. Depression or substance abuse commonly occurs with panic disorder. It is important to ask yourself if more often than not you feel sad or depressed, disinterested in life, worthless or guilty. It is also critical to ask yourself whether during the last year alcohol or drugs such as cocaine and marijuana played a role in your failing to fulfill responsibilities with work, school or family; placed you in a dangerous situation; gotten you arrested; or has continued to be a problem although you are aware of the ill effects on you and your loved ones. Panic attacks that occur only in response to specific triggers in the environment, including flying in an airplane, are not considered panic disorder.
