What Disease Is Caused By Deficiency Of Thiamine?
The disease is called beriberi, though it’s more of a syndrome than a disease. Thiamine deficiency can present in many different ways, the principle symptoms are any combination of, constant tiredness, weakness (the translation of beriberi is great weakness) the weakness usually starts in the legs and works upwards, edema (often starts with puffiness of the shins or neck), peripheral neuritis, breathlessness, heart palpitations, enlarged right ventricle of the heart, tingling or burning sensation in the limbs hands face or mouth.
