What direction does a ceiling fan need to rotate in order for it to help cool air rise?
In order for the fan to draw air upwards (cool air rise), you should set it to where the lower edge of the blade spins to the front. On most models, this is clockwise. Or you could just turn it on, stand under it, an see if it is pushing air down. If so, turn it off, then move the tab on the side of the motor, then turn on. This should get the results you want.
