What difficulties does EVA present and how can the additives be accommodated?
A. EVA (ethyl-vinyl-acetate) is quite often blended with or added to coextruded polyethylene films in order to get better sealing properties, elasticity and flexibility. EVA is undesirable for plastic pyrolysis processes since it breaks down to acetic acid which may make the diesel fuel corrosive Q 13. Product ranges can vary in thickness of each individual layer relative to other layers in the same film. Can be different combinations of materials used. A. No problems occur with inorganic additives such as silica antiblock, titanium dioxide pigment etc. since these residues will simply end up in the char stream. Other additives such as erucamide are present at such low levels (< 1%) that they pose no problems.
