For more than two decades, WakeMed Children’s has been Wake County’s primary children’s healthcare resource and the place where nearly all pediatricians admit their patients for hospitalization. It is the depth and breadth of our pediatric expertise that makes WakeMed Children’s unique. Only WakeMed Children’s has a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Level IV Intensive Care Nursery, a Children’s Emergency Department and a dedicated inpatient care unit. WakeMed is the only Wake County hospital that has pediatric hospitalists and intensivists on staff. These are physicians who have the expertise and specialized training to care for hospitalized children and those that are critically ill in the intensive care unit. While based in the hospital, they work closely with a child’s pediatrician to coordinate care in the hospital setting.
