What differentiates an e-bike from a normal bike in the eyes of the law?
Even though an e-bike closely resembles a regular bike, there are still legal differences. California state law requires that every rider must wear a helmet and that all riders must be 16 years of age or older. Washington and California state laws regarding e-bikes are very similar. In Wisconsin, riders must have a valid driver’s license. It’s also worth noting that e-bikes are not permitted on certain bike paths with the electric motor engaged.
