Depends on where you are. Generally there’s a divide between Civil and criminal law. All lawyers start out basically the same. Few law schools have specialty tracks, though some allow a concentration in some areas. Specialization occurs after law school. The only type of lawyer that is actually licensed differently is the Patent Attorney, who must pass the Patent Bar as well as the standard state bar exam.
