What different types of composition should children write and what is the easiest and most difficult?

A. Children of all ages should write narrative, informative, and informative-narrative paragraphs/passages. In literary appreciation lessons, we begin with narratives because most all children are familiar with stories. Next, we teach the elements of the three types of writing using the McCall-Crabbs Test Lessons in Primary Reading. When students can quickly identify whether a paragraph is narrative, informative, or informative-narrative, we teach them to write an informative-narrative first because it is the easiest transition from writing declarative sentences about a favorite pet or toy to writing a four to six sentence informative-narrative about that pet or toy (text p. 107).
