What dieseases are aneuploidies?
Well, the good news is they’re not infectious diseases. The bad news is they’re genetic. Aneuploidy means the cell has the wrong number of chromosomes. The most common aneuploidy you see in humans is Down’s syndrome. That’s what happens when you have an extra copy of chromosome 23. Then there’s aneuplodies like trisomy 13 and trisomy 18. Trisomy 13, or Patau’s syndrom is marked by severe defects such as cleft palate, cyclopism, underdeveloped muscles, skeletal defects and heart defects. It is usually lethal, with very little survavl beyond infancy. Trisomy 18, or Edwards’ syndrome is marked by severe defects — small head and jaw, bent limbs, heart defects, and many more.
