What did you want to bring to the role of Elizabeth Bennet that hasn’t been done before?
KEIRA: The thing about this role is that you can’t copy anyone. It’s impossible. The reason why the character has lasted as one of the favorite female characters in English literature is that any women who read the women see themselves as Elizabeth Bennet. You really do and I was terrified of taking it because I was obsessed with the BBC version. I watched it on a loop for about two years until my brother threw away the video because he hated it so much. Bastard! Q: Is there anybody that helped you understand that? KEIRA: My mum said, “Read the book again and I guarantee you’ll see yourself as Elizabeth Bennet, and it will be completely impossible to copy Jennifer Ehle.” She was absolutely right. I’m going make a huge generalization, and therefore it’s going to be completely wrong, but I think every woman wants to be her because she’s intelligent. She’s got great wit. She’s extremely passionate but she’s also somebody who’s really annoying and you just want to shake her and kick her up
