What did you enjoy reading more, Pillars of the Earth, or World Without End, both by Ken Follett?
This may sound really corny but Pillars of the Earth changed my life. I never cared too much about history before but after reading Pillars, I was thirsty to learn more about British and European history. I realized I had a huge gap in my knowledge not just about history but about religion, science, politics, art, and architecture. Since reading Pillars, I can’t get enough of cathedrals. I live in Europe now (was living in North America when I first read Pillars) so I get plenty of opportunities. I walk into a Gothic cathedral and cry, I’m just so overwhelmed. I was in Barcelona recently and walked into La Sagrada Familia and – wow – the feeling of being inside a cathedral under construction was just amazing. Slowly but surely, I’m connecting the dots and learning the reasons “why” things happened in history, and why they are today. Things just make more sense. I guess this book just opened up a new world to me that was there all along, but I just wasn’t paying attention. I liked World
