What did untouchables have to do with Mohandas Gandhi?
First, they’re both Indian. In the traditional caste system, the Untouchables were at the very bottom. They were the garbage collectors, sewer workers and generally did the jobs that nobody else would do (and generally got the dirtiest, thereby earning the term). When Gandhi founded his ashram, he basically did away with the caste system, and treated the untouchables as equals wherever he went.
