What did the traffic and parking study conclude?
The study confirmed what those who live in, work in or visit Streeterville know – traffic is already bad in the neighborhood and will continue to get worse. The study shows that 20% of the intersections included in the study are currently operating at unacceptable levels of service and projects that 30% of the intersections included in the study will be failing by 2012. This failure rate is calculated in an “ideal” traffic world and does not take into consideration operational characteristics such as buses, taxis or service delivery vehicles stopping, valet parking, etc. This means that the neighborhood experience will actually be worse, whether one is driving, being driven (e.g., in a bus or taxi), or walking. The anticipated degree of failure at critical neighborhood intersections is dramatic, and includes seven-minute projected turn times at Chicago and Lake Shore Drive, and six-minute projected turn times at Ohio and Michigan Avenue. Failures are also projected for intersections on
