What did the Mayans use the calendars for?
Calendars have always ben used for the same reasons: to keep track of how long its been since an important event, to predict the coming of seasons and growing periods, and to track festivals. The Mayans were no different and used their several calendars for these purposes. Their calendar (long cout) started on August 11, 3114 BCE after all the changes are figured out and contained several subcycles of years. It also tracked lunar cycles (months) and the rising and setting of Venus.
