What did the Lusitania mean to the US?
Another important factor was that Lusitania killed 128 Americans. This created quite a bit of bitterness between the US and Germany, which made Germany obliged that it would no longer fire without warning. (However, as you will soon see, when Germany again declared unrestricted submarine warfare, the US was drawn into the war). Thus another important part of the Lusitania attack was it being the catalyst for America’s joining World War I.
