What did the kapp putsch aim to achieve ?

The Putsch happened because Freikorps (German auxiliary army units) resisted disbandment – under the Treaty of Versailles, the German army had to be reduced to 100,000 men, which meant disbanding many army units. The aim of the Putsch was to overthrow the Weimar government and stop the reduction in army numbers that was taking place under the forced disbandments. The Putsch failed because of a General Strike by the working class, called by the Weimar government. Germany became paralyzed and, unable to govern effectively, its leaders escaped to Sweden, the Putsch then collapsing.Further, the Putsch leaders failed to gain expected support from regular army units and other Freikorps formations.
