What did the children eat during the holocaust?
The persecuted Jewish children and adults had very little to eat during the Holocaust. At the beginning they got a meagre food ration and later on in the ghetto they had to exchange valuables for food on the black market. Some “lucky” ones who were allowed to work for the Germans managed to get a bit extra food in return for the hard labour. In the concentration camps they got a weak soup and a bit of dark bread which contained saw dust. That is the reason that the liberated Jewish children and adults were living skeletons.
