What did Tang Dynasty ruler did to ensure that China was economically prosperous culture?
The Silk Road was the road to riches in the Tang dynasty as China was open to the west during that period. The Grand Canal was completed just previously to this dynasty so transportation of goods was greatly improved. Even though many of the emperors had corrupt courts, the military was strong in general. Chang’an became the capital of China and the largest, most cosmopolitan city in the world with religious tolerance and traders from all over. Great public works including bridges and canals kept the population busy and productive. Note that busy is not always productive.
