What did Roe v. Wade accomplish?
Firstly, let us briefly mention Jane Roe, the woman behind Roe v. Wade. Her real name is Norma McCorvey. She was a resident of Texas where abortion was illegal except for the life of the mother. She became pregnant and sued the state of Texas in 1971 so that she could have an abortion. She claimed to have gotten pregnant from a rape, which she later recanted. Because of the length of the court case, she had the baby and gave it up for adoption. Norma McCorvey is now a strong pro-life advocate. In 2003 McCorvey filed suit to have Roe v. Wade overturned. The suit contains 5,437 pages of evidence and affidavits from more than 1,000 women who testified that having an abortion had devastating emotional, physical, and psychological effects on them. The Supreme Court in January of 1973, voted in favor of Jane Roe. This made abortion legal in all 50 states. They used the bogus argument of the right to privacy in their decision.
