What did people in medevil times eat?
Only the nobility ate from plates of silver or gold. Most people used trenchers. This could be one of two things. One could be a slab of thick bread with the food put on top and the other was a slab of wood. Often two people ate off the same trenchers. The wooden trenchers really got interesting since they weren’t washed and things often grew on them and little bugs and worms lived in them, but since the food was half rotten,, over cooked, or mushy I suppose that may have not made much difference. Spices were needed to make the food eatable.Salt was valuable and kept in a saltcellar or small box.
