What did Lizzie Borden, Napoleon, and Titian have in common?
Supposedly, they were all redheads. Funny, I never thought of Napoleon as a redhead, but I’m willing to accept the claim that he was. Titian, however, is another case. “Titian red” is named after the color seen in the hair of many of his female subjects. Whether he himself had red hair isn’t certain. There’s a self-portrait done in old age that appears to have a little red in the otherwise very gray beard, but also a famous portrait that may be of Titian himself in his comparative youth. The subject isn’t a redhead.
