What did Joan of Arc do?
Dear Questioner You asked for a brief answer. Joan of Arc was a teenage girl of peasant stock and deeply religious who believed she had a mission from God to help the French army defeat the English and to see the King crowned in Rheims Cathedral. She convinced the King that she was genuine and was provided with horse, armour, sword and banner. In 1429 Joan led the French army to Orleans where the town was besieged by the English army under the Duke of Bedford and Sir William Glasdale. The English were demoralised by her presence and fled north. Following the victory, during which she was wounded in the shoulder by an arrow, she saw the King crowned at Rheims as she had foreseen. She was captured by the Burgundian’s, allies of the English, whilst out scouting for the French army and handed over to the English. She had become an important leader to the French soldiery who’s moral was uplifted when she was with them. They would have followed her anywhere. She was put on trial for heresy i
