What did Hilary Clinton mean by an “existential threat?”?

Existential = Having to do with being (existence). An existential threat is a threat to being, i.e. a threat to life, to one’s way of life, etc. Existential is not a made-up word that only applies to a random grouping of philosophers, literary critics and journalists. It is a word that was adopted by some of the later thinkers as a way to capture what it was that they were trying to talk about. I’m not a Hil-dog fan, but she seems to have a better command of the English language than do a lot of us in on Yahoo Answers.
