FDR also supplied the British with armaments when the British started warring with Germany in 1939. This is how we sort of “snuck into” WW2, and this is what really pulled us out of the Depression – the governments massive military spending on the war, partly towards supplying the British, and partly towards developing our own military. After FDR and Truman, President Eisenhower pointed out the dangers of the Military-Industrial Complex which essentially started during WW2. That is, the economy’s dependency on military spending, which requires constant demand for military goods.
