What did Abraham Lincoln do for human rights?
Well to be brutally honest, not one single thing. When you check the historical record you will find that Lincoln was a member of the “Back to Africa” movement which sought to have all slaves sent back to their “home country”. He was also not a proponent of equal rights for blacks, though he did feel they could be treated better. In fact he is on record in his debates with Stephen Douglas as saying “If I could save the union without freeing one slave, I would.” He is also on record in those same debates as saying “I do not hold that the Negro is the equal of the white man.” And in his first Innaugural address March 4, 1861, he said: “I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.
