DETROIT — Explosions and a fire at a chemical factory Monday forced firefighters to evacuate employees and police to caution nearby residents to stay inside their homes. The Detroit Auto Show is expected to reopen Thursday evening after an electrical fire forced it to be evacuated earlier in the day, according to the Detroit Free Press. The fire at the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit “was very small and put out with a fire extinguisher,” an official told Fox News. People were evacuated from the North American International Auto Show as a safety precaution. Organizers expect to let crowds return around 5:00 p.m. ET once the smoke clears. Detroit — Smoke from a fire at an exhibit today led police to evacuate the North American International Auto Show. A display of foreign automaker Audi caught fire around 1:30 p.m., said show spokesman Sam Locricchio, forcing authorities to have people leave the building. He said there was damage to a booth, but no one was hurt. “We got people off the show floor as quickly as possible as a precaution,” Locricchio said.
