What determines that a mother is “unfit”?
Point of view is the single most determinant factor in whether or not a mother is considered “unfit”. A mother might believe herself to be incapable; a neighbor may believe a mother down the street does not properly care for her kids; and yet, social services may have another definition. Mothers are under a lot of pressure, much of it self-imposed. The world at large seems to believe that moms can do and be and have “it all”, without stopping to realize the impossibility of that. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, the same seven days each week, and mothers have many more responsibilities than only being a mother.
