What defines a product as Organic?
Organic refers to the food itself and also how it was produced. Any foods that bear the organic label must be certified under the National Organic Program(NOP) that took effect October 21, 2002. The foods must be grown and processed using organic farming methods as defined by the NOP. Organic foods may not be irradiated and the crops must be grown without the use of synthetic chemicals, antibiotics, hormones, and genetically modified organisms.
