What deficiencies did the committee and OWP/P discover about the existing building?
• Classroom space has been carved out of every available inch of the building, often resulting in spaces one-third to one-half the size of a typical classroom • The majority of classrooms spaces are used 75-100 percent of the time (Although it is good for facilities to be well-used, schools where most of the classrooms are used 100 percent of the time feel crowded.) • Band and music classes for all grades are now in the Freshmen Center along with some business and foreign language classes • Many science labs have no running water or gas supply • Many science labs have no prep rooms • Hallways are a labyrinth • Narrow corridors on the north side of the building • Pedestrian traffic bottlenecks • Some traveling teachers (with no classroom of their own) • The Freshmen Center and the cafeteria are the only areas of the school that have fire sprinklers. • Exterior masonry needs to be cleaned and tuck pointed and have joints repaired. • Rusted lintels • Roof conditions in various parts of th
