What deductions are made from maternity benefits?

Technically at a lot of work places maternity leave isn’t a real thing. It’s more like FMLA. A Family Medical Leave of Absence. I know at my employer they pay temporary disability pay when you take FMLA, but the pay doesn’t kick in until you’ve been out for 3 weeks. My HR manager instructed me that if I wanted to be paid for the first 3 weeks I would need to use any vacation, sick or holiday time that I have saved up and then after the 3 week period my disability pay would kick in. Also, they take the same deductions out of that pay (which is a lot less than what you would normally make) that they would normally take out of each paycheck. Ex: 401K, taxes, insurance and any other benefits or contributions you pay for.
