What decorations are essential for Christmas besides the tree, stockings and a wreath?

I’ll admit, I’m looking for ideas for a Mahalo article. My mother loves Christmas and actually had a room filled with Christmas decorations in our attic. Consequently, I don’t decorate for Christmas having been forced every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I’ve also lived my entire life in the midwest, so I’m a little curious if there are some decorating traditions out there that I might not be familiar with.
