What database does WorkRoll use?

WorkRoll uses the proprietary Avocado.db database to persist its data. WorkRoll.com developed Avocado.db in 2002 for use in the WorkRoll application; it has since since been deployed in several other applications. It is very lightweight (does not use a large amount of memory or processor time) and does not require either its own server machine or a separate installation. Avocado.db has proven to be a highly stable, efficient, small-footprint way to store medium-sized datasets (it is capable of storing 50,000 rows of data easily, and of serving that data very quickly). Developers access and manipulate data stored in an Avocado.db instance directly via a Java API. While development of WorkRoll has continued since its initial release in 2003 (go to this page at the Internet Archive to view WorkRoll.com’s site as launched in 2003), WorkRoll.com has not developed, tuned, or enhanced Avocado.db since that time because it has been unnecessary: it has consistently met the needs of the WorkRoll
