What data are being required from a pyrethroid registrant?
CDPR requested studies to investigate the environmental fate and the toxicity using California sediments, as well as programs on the transport mechanism from treated areas to the aquatic environment. CDPR sent individual letters to registrants identifying the active ingredients, products, list of studies and timeframes upon which to submit the data. This re-evaluation impacts approximately 608 registered products and 123 registrants. CDPR divided the pyrethroid chemical into three groups. Group I consists of photosensitive chemicals, which are typically used in homeowner products. The Group II and III compounds are more effective to insects and some of them may persist longer in the environment than Group I active ingredients. Group I and Group II actives have notbeen detected in California aquatic sediments. Group III pyrethroids have been detected in California aquatic sediments and are widely used in both agricultural and urban settings.
