What damage can moths do?
Food moths cause infestation in stored foodstuffs. The moths themselves do no damage and do not eat during their short liefspan of 1-2 weeks. The damage caused by the larvae (grubs) includes: – loss of quantity and quality in affected foodstuffs – consequent infestation of food with mould and mites – contamination of food and processing machinery with excrement, cocoons, cast skin and larvae – short circuits & malfunctions in electrical equipment In homes the infestation often affects not just food can also occur in dreid flower arrangements where the grubs feed on plant seeds. Unless these are cleard the moths wille emerge from hidden locations and infest the food again.
